HAE Founder Arrested for Defying the Laws of Gravity
Tim Novak, 44, was arrested for failing to obey posted speed limits and carrying a concealed weapon, a Sven Saw, on September 19, 2004. Novak was caught on radar speeding over 60 mph in a 30 mph zone while riding a HAE Classic Luge. Police in Ansted said they have Novak in custody and expect to turn him over to National Park officials later this week.
Tim Novak said Monday he had been expecting a "big ass blaze" when he arrived at Ansted's annual Fire on the Mountain competition. "Since I couldn't burn down the woods, I figured I'd burn down the (gravity sport) course", Novak said. Tim finished third in his first amateur Buttboard race and finished fourth in the Mass Buttboard race held on Sunday.
HAE is widely known for the near fatal events on Mount Bigelow, Maine in 1987, chronicled in their online adventure classic, Into Big Maine. HAE is responsible for countless acres of deforestation in northern New England during their well publicized annual winter backpacking expeditions.
